Adams Eden  is the story of a cottage that was built by our father, J.B. Adams, for his beloved wife “Tink.” Mom loved this house more than any place on earth. When this house was built, there were only a few houses within sight here at the North End of Sandbridge, just south of Virginia Beach and just north of the Back Bay Wildlife Preserve. Everyone who owned homes here came and spent the summers with their families. Mom and Dad did the same thing with the four of us. Life in the summer was simple; nothing but sand, surf, bonfires on the beach, and visiting with neighbors. As time passed, we (Debbie, Kevin, Jill, and Jane,) spent our summers in Sandbridge  as well. We raised our twelve children here doing the same things we did when we were young. Now our children and grandchildren (10 so far) are spending their summers here. Even when the pace of life gets hectic, we can still come here to this refuge and dissolve back into walks on the beach or in the wildlife preserve, bike rides, naps on the sofa, puzzles, outdoor showers, fishing, and most important, family time.

The cottage has gone through many changes over the years, but it is still our  home.  Gone is the lime green shag rug, the avocado counter tops, and the tiny storage shed for boogie boards under the house. We will, however, never get rid of Mom’s leopard sofa (she should have been a hippie)  or our childhood furniture. Although we have recently upgraded and remodeled the kitchen and both bathrooms and replaced all mattresses, our kids made sure that we retained the original 60’s blue and yellow bathroom fixtures and we still have one room of shag carpet hanging on!

Our Mom used to say that she wished she could bottle up the feeling that she had when she was here and take it home with her. We’ve never been able to do that either but we still feel that way too. Mom used to say that she knew her mansion in heaven was a beach cottage. Adams Eden is definitely a little bit of” heaven on earth.” We hope you will enjoy our home and ask that you take care of it like it was your own.
